Despite her love for skimpy stage costumes, Lily Allen tells Q magazine (via Daily Express) she's has body dysmorphic disorder. When asked what she sees when she looks in the mirror, Lily said, "Someone who is more overweight than they actually are." Allen admits she now sports a svelte new figure after embarking on a healthy eating and exercise regime."I was sitting in bed last night and I caught sight of myself in the mirror," Allen said. "I said, 'God, that's a funny looking thing.' My boyfriend [Sam Cooper] said, 'You are, but in a very sweet and beautiful way.' That was smooth of him."
BDD is a psychological disorder that involves preoccupation with imagined defects with one's body.
She shocked fans in 2007 by taking to her online blog to discuss her fears over her shape.
The post was titled "Fat, ugly and sh**ter than Winehouse" and read, "I write to you in a sea of tears from my hotel bed in Seattle. I have spent the past hour researching gastric bypass surgery and laser liposuction."

oh please, can we think up any more silly new disorders if we really try? THIS ISN'T MENTAL ILLNESS.maybe her perception of her body is a twisted one, but i don't consider this genuine mental illness.

Sorry, byt you are wrong. This is a disorder and a potentially deadly one. It is classified in the DSM IV (but granted so are a lot of not-so-serious ones.) People with this disorder have a serious inability to see their physical bodies realistically and will be obsessed with(take Michael Jackson as a prime example with his plastic surgeries)finding ways to "fix" themselves. Until you have had or are witness to someone who has had an obsessive disorder of this kind, you will have no idea of its power.
People w/ BDD are more likely to kill themselves than people who suffer from bipolar disorder. Some see themselves as horribly disfigured and can't even bear to leave the house. You really should know what you're talking about before saying a mental disorder isn't real.
Just another jacked up woman

I have never heard of Body Dysmorphic Disorder. People can label themselves anything that they cannot deal with. Then they make up so kind of name to corrosponse with their own disolutions. If she has a mental problem, then she need to see a phycologist someone who can help her deal with her problem. Then let the Doctor put a label on them.

Because YOU have never heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Ask any mental health professional. I assure you THEY have heard of it.
Margo,
I am a psychotherapist and BDD is a real mental illness not unlike other ED's ( eating disorders). People work through and recover from this with therapy and often, medication.
she should go to a phycologist someone who can help her deal with her problem. Then let the Doctor put a label on them.
Psycologists arent doctors.
Hey I just wanted to point out that Body Dysmorphic Disorder IS a real psychological condition.
Research a little and you will find that.
The body is the last thing she needs to worry about as long as she keeps puffing on those cigarettes. Now, that's a really glamorous look-NOT.

Who cares about what any of these media hounds do or think? Lady Gag Gag and smelly allen are no talent hacks who spend YOUR money doing lavish things and throw it back in your face just to do it all over again! Wake up people!

Hmm - apparently talent is in the ear of the listener. Lady Gaga is one of the most talented new vocalists I've heard in several years. She doesn't need the wacky appearance to make hit records, but apparently she likes the attention.
she doesn't have a disorder, she is fat.
Reply
how can you be so rude, BDD is real and she is skinny, what would make you say something like that, are people really that mean to call someone fat when they obviuosly are not? you must be jealous or dumb
...and you have a disorder. You're ignorant. Fat, whether it's real or perceived, is an individual thing. Some people are bigger boned than others. Others just are not happy with their appearance and think they need to do something about it. If she's eating healthier than she used to, than who are you to judge her? Are YOU perfect? I think I already know the answer to that one.
Margo
Please google "Body Dysmorphic Disorder"

I think 80% of southern Californians suffer from this.

Body Dysphormic Disorder is a form of a mental disorder. It falls in line with Hypocondriasis, pain disorder, and conversion disorder. These people believe that their bodies are severely misshapen, and many of these people are willing to go to extreme lengths, such as surgeries to fix it. In the end, they usually will never be satisfied with their looks and continue getting surgeries.

You have to be kidding. Every woman in the world would be dysmorphic. This is dys stupid!
